Ms.Luisa

Ms. Luisa was born and raised in Colombia and has shared her language and culture with our students since 2008. Approaching language from an immersion perspective, Ms. Luisa interacts with the students almost entirely in Spanish. Whether a child needs help buttoning a sweater or carrying on a conversation in Spanish about the weather, Ms. Luisa offers caring and supportive guidance to all the students.

Toddler Asst. - Ms. Katherine

Katherine steps into the role of Toddler Assistant, after serving as a valued substitute at our school for several years.  Katherine holds a Montessori Children's House certificate and an AAS in Early Childhood Education, as well as a BA in Elementary Education.  With her genuine love of and over 25-years experience with children, Katherine brings much warmth and a deep commitment to this important work. 

Toddler Asst. - Ms. Nice

Ms. Nice brings tremendous warmth and joy to her work with the toddlers, and the children are very attracted to her loving care.  A native of Brazil, Ms. Nice and her family (husband and 6 year old daughter) have been in the Winston-Salem area for 7 years.  Ms. Nice holds a Bachelor of Arts in Portuguese, English and Literature and taught ESL in Brazil.  Ms. Nice's interests include reading, sewing and cross-stitching.

Toddler Asst. - Ms. Pooja

Working with children is something Ms. Pooja has always wanted to do.  When her child was enrolled at a Montessori school in New York, she became actively involved in the school and fell in love with the Montessori philosophy.  In fact, she was an assistant in their Children's House Program for 5 years.  When her family moved to North Carolina, Ms. Pooja knew she wanted to continue working at a Montessori school, and last year joined TMS as a Toddler Sunset Assistant.

Toddler Asst. - Ms. Sherri

When Ms. Sherri joined our community over 4 years ago, she brought with her a wealth of experience working with children in a variety of settings, as well as an undergraduate degree from a local Winston-Salem college. Ms. Sherri finds her work very rewarding and observing the facial expressions of the children when they are discovering something new brings her great joy.

Toddler Lead - Ms. Amy

Ms. Amy is a Montessori-certified Toddler guide with 12 years’ experience working with children, 5 of them at our school. After working in textile design for several years after graduating college, Ms. Amy wanted more meaningful work and found it with children and animals. Ms. Amy finds great joy in nurturing toddlers develop their independence.

Toddler Lead - Ms. Annamarie

Ms. Annamarie is a career Montessorian with over 25 years of experience and Montessori certifications at both the Infant/Toddler and Children’s House levels.  To say she is passionate about the transformative power of a Montessori education would be an understatement!  In her positions as a lead teacher and as the Director of Education, she brings her wealth of knowledge and joy of discovery to her work with children.  An active gardener and lover of the natural world, Annamarie is often...

Toddler Lead - Ms. Kay

Ms. Kay brings her depth of experience and love of children to the classroom every day. You can count on seeing her smiling face and tender interactions with the toddlers in her care. Holding a Montessori-certified toddler credential, plus a BFA in Theatre, coupled with almost 3 decades of experience with children, Kay has many talents and experiences that enrich the children’s day at school.

CH Asst. - Ms. Dorian

Ms. Dorian counts her 7 children and 6 grandchildren as her greatest blessings!  In fact, her grandchild is the primary reason she learned about the Montessori philosophy of education.   When Ms. Dorian witnessed the growth in him, she was inspired and decided to explore joining our school community as a faculty member.   A lover of the arts from an early age, Ms. Dorian shares her passion and love of music and creativity daily with the children.

CH Asst. - Ms. Leslie

 After living in Winston-Salem for over 25 years, Ms. Leslie considers this area her home. Ms. Leslie has worked with children for over 16 years, 6 of them at our school. Her positive, joyful attitude and caring presence help the children feel loved and cherished.

CH Asst. - Ms. Pam

Serendipity played a part in Ms. Pam learning about Montessori. When she and her 3-year old son got lost while running some errands, they turned around in the Montessori school parking lot. It prompted Pam to look into Montessori, and now Pam has completed her 4th year and her son is nearing his 9th year at our school. Pam brings her love of nature, combined with her B.A. in Biology, to enrich the children's exploration of the world around them.

CH Asst. - Ms. Sujata

Upon first meeting Ms. Sujata, you may not realize that she speaks 3 languages or that she has earned degrees from two different universities. What you’ll first notice is Sujata’s calming, loving presence. The way she patiently interacts with the children, the care with which she prepares the classroom, all reflective of the love she has for children. Ms. Sujata is also known for her amazing sewing skills, a talent that she generously shares with the children.

CH Lead - Ms. Faith

It’s a special gift to have a Montessori alumni on our teaching staff. Starting at age 4, Faith attended Montessori schools and has loved and embraced the philosophy and teachings of Maria Montessori ever since. Keeping the Montessori tradition alive in her life, Faith is pursuing her Montessori Children's House credential, as she enters her 8th year serving young children at our school.  Faith is also giving the gift of a Montessori education to her 3-year old son.

CH Lead - Ms. Chrys

Ms. Chrys is a Montessori-certified Children’s House guide and has worked at our school for the past 17 years . As a teacher who grew up in another culture and speaks multiple languages, Ms. Chrys brings tremendous richness to her classroom and our school community. Chrys’ international perspective aligns perfectly with the Montessori philosophy that we are all part of a global community.

CH Lead - Ms. Holly

Some people fall into Montessori, and some folks are born into it. The latter was the case with Ms. Holly, who’s a 3rd generation Montessorian. She carried on the Montessori tradition with her 3 grown children, all Montessori alumni. A world traveler, having lived in Japan, Spain and El Salvador, Ms. Holly enlivens the classroom with her global perspective, passion for teaching and gift of music.

CH Lead - Ms. Maria

Ms. Maria comes from a long line of educators, and she knew from a young age, growing up in Puerto Rico, that she would fall in her parent’s footsteps. Supporting children as they develop at their own pace is what attracted Maria to the Montessori philosophy of education. Now almost 9 years after starting at our school, Maria continues to bring tremendous energy, enthusiasm and passion to her work with children.

CH Sunset Asst. - Ms. Marie

Ms. Marie has a passion for children, as evidenced by her 15 years experience working with children. She quickly and easily builds a rapport with the children and their parents. The students look forward to their afternoons in Sunset with Ms. Marie.

CH Sunset Lead - Ms. Takia

Ms. Takia brings a calm peacefulness to her work with children.  Her warm smile and open attititude help children feel welcome and cared for.  From early on, Ms. Takia saw education as 'her path' and earned a BS in Family and Consumers Sciences, specializing in child development and family relations.  Additionally, she earned a NC teaching license (birth-kindergarten).

Lower Elementary Asst. - Ms. Evelyn

Ms. Evelyn has had many roles at our school, as a Mom and a valued substitute.  She now is assisting Ms. Ellen in our Lower Elementary classroom.  With 7 years experience working with children, Ms. Evelyn brings a wealth of experience and education (BA in Art & Music and Masters degree in Library Science).  In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, sewing and knitting..

Lower Elementary Sunset Lead - Ms. Jenna

Though Ms. Jenna was born in Charlotte, she has packed in lots of international experiences before joining our school.  A Salem College graduate (BA in Teaching, Schools & Society with a concentration in Literacy, minor in Spanish), Jenna has worked with elementary-aged students both here and abroad and is a finalist for the NC Student Teacher of the Year Award. Being a Moravian, she enjoys living in Old Salem and studying Moravian history.

Lower Elementary Asst. - Ms. Leila

Ms. Leila has worked with children for over 13 years, 5 of them at our school. Though she worked with various age groups in Montessori settings prior to joining our faculty, elementary age students are by far her favorite. Having been born and raised in Russia, Ms. Leila adds a unique cultural perspective to the classroom.

Lower Elementary Lead - Ms. Cheryl

A native North Carolinian, Ms. Cheryl lived in and explored several states (Rhode Island, Montana, Hawaii) prior to returning home to NC. A life-long educator with a BA in Elementary Education, Ms. Cheryl earned her Montessori Elementary credential and has over 21 years experience working with elementary-aged students. Montessori is a ‘family affair,’ for her husband, Paul, has worked in Montessori education for almost 35 years and their two children are Montessori alumni.

Lower Elementary Lead - Ms. Ellen

Montessori and the love of the earth go hand in hand. No one embodies this connection more than Ms. Ellen. With a Montessori elementary teaching credential, plus a Masters degree in Environmental Education, Ms. Ellen shares her passion and knowledge about the world in a way that excites and inspires her students. A master gardener, beekeeper and avid birder, she enjoys helping children develop a mutually enhancing relationship with the natural world and appreciation of the interconnectedness...

PE Teacher - Mr. Michael

Mr. Michael’s love of the outdoors and commitment to healthy living is plainly evident, from the bike rack on his fuel-efficient car to the nutritious foods he brings for lunch. Since he joined our staff 3 years ago, Mr. Michael shares with his students the fact that living a healthy lifestyle encompasses the foods we eat, the attitudes we hold and how active we keep our bodies. Upper Elementary Asst. - Ms. Meredith

Between her 8 years of working with children and her years of extensive travel (visited over 16 countries), Ms. Meredith has a diverse and broad wealth of experience to share with her students.  Most recently she worked with middle school children in reading/language arts, writing and social studies.  Ms. Meredith holds a BA in American History and Geography and is scheduled to complete a Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2017.  Ms. Meredith, her fiance and their two black labs recently settled...

Upper Elementary Lead - Ms. Sarah

Ms. Sarah has 6 years experience in Upper Elementary, the past 2 years in the capacity of lead teacher. After finishing a BA in History/Political Science, Ms. Sarah transitioned into the field of education, earning an M.Ed. We are fortunate to have Ms. Sarah’s breadth of knowledge, boundless enthusiasm and sense of humor in our upper elementary classroom.
